Man cannot be without tradition. Should true Tradition and authentic devotion be eschewed, something spurious would replace it, like the tradition of hand sanitizers, floor stickers and TSA-style check-in counters.

There's way too much of that in the world!

And I like your takedown of hand sanitizer. At my parish, they would make you stick out your hand and receive a pump-spray of sanitizer before entering the main worship hall for Mass. I would receive the sanitizer in my palm and then proceed directly downstairs to the restroom to wash it off my one hand that had been contaminated with such a fake "safety" product.

What do you think about hand sanitizer on the credence table? I really hate seeing it added to the articles of the Mass there too. The worst part is that it’s been dignified with a discreet white ceramic container now. 😭

But there doesn’t seem to be the same airtight argument against it as the one for the altar.

It’s terrible 😞 It’s the same thing. everything in the sanctuary has a reason to be there. Each object radiates meaning. Putting such a thing on a pedestal offers the worshipper some meaning …

Right before C19 “hit” I could not help but see a young woman chewing on her nails incessantly throughout the first part of Mass. Pews face each other (across the Altar in the middle ::cringe::) and then(!) she arose to distribute the Eucharist!! Our Priest addressed us after Mass regarding precautions being considered as it seemed we’d be confronting C19, and to approach him with any concerns after Mass. I approached him about teaching EM’s NOT to chew their nails and if they are inclined too-not to serve as an EM!!
