Yes, the new curvaceous altar is overtly feminine and, as another observer pointed out, looks unstable. Much like the cast of The View.

haha...

That's funny -- it did not strike me as feminine at all, although now that you say it, the spurious femininity of one of those pre-Columbian fertility figures, the kind that are all hips with just a few strokes.

So glad you're back to writing here! I find the similarity between the Notre Dame altar and the set of The View jarring. That thing is unfitting for any church, let alone Notre Dame. The only place an "altar" like that would look at home would be among the rubbish at the local dump.

Looks like the table for The View.

Totally agree, the new altar is horrible and not in fitting with the rest of the Cathedral or the important symbolism of altars.

The crazy thing about the altar is—the French government actually left the altar, the ambo, and the baptismal font up to the Bishop and church officials.

So the French government actually did a surprisingly incredible job of restoring the Church while the Bishops totally botched the one element they were tasked with restoring.

In restoring the roof, the architect hired by the government even went to painstaking efforts to make sure the trees used for the beams matched the original beams and were carved with similar methods using axes etc. Similar attention was given to the spire.

Hopefully, when the influence of these 70s minded Bishops wanes, the altar will be replaced.

It must be taken away and the spot exorcised or purified or whatever it is that is done when something has desecrated the spot, in my opinion!

I agree that it's really ironic that the government responded to the people's desire for tradition and the Church did not.

This is how we honor our Lord and Creator? With a table from IKEA? Modern is NOT better. The Bishops are lost. Completely lost.
