I read the Door in the Wall when I was a boy and thought it was wonderful! I was actually contemplating rereading it a week ago, does it hold up as an adult?
Speaking of unreliable narrators, I wonder if anyone here has heard of Gene Wolfe? He was a very accomplished Catholic but criminally unknown author of SciFi/ Fantasy. I'll go so far as to say his prose are the best you can get in the latter half of the last century. His magnum opus "The Book of the New Sun" is a masterclass in unreliable narration and symbolism. Fun fact, almost every character in those novels in named after an obscure saint such as St Severian, St Dorcas, St Hethor and more!

It does hold up well, and there is an excellent audiobook for those with limited time. Narrated by Roger Rees.
I would be interested to know if you enjoy The Door in the Wall now. It’s not long - give it a re-read!
Have a great vacation! Viper's Tangle is so good. Looking forward to reading the Ishiguro book, Remains of the Day was wonderful.
