Phil and Leila, you are making very valid points relative to this month and the use and abuse of sacred symbols. When you mentioned 'the vacuum' you key in on what we have not done.
Dr. K's post in Substack yesterday was a big step forward.
We do not go against when we kneel in prayerful silence, with John 8:11 at the ready if/when a question is asked.
60 hours have been witnessed in South Texas. I have yet to have a problematic encounter when I look up from my 'parking place', usually in the sand.
I actually think people HAVE been praying! But it's all inside, all in our minds and even hearts.
What I argue is missing is the *radiance* of that goodness and truth -- beauty.
We have withheld *beauty* from those around us. We don't have beautiful, authentic art. We don't have outdoor shrines that are peaceful and settled (as Europeans do).
We don't wear beautiful gold jewelry (we get tattoos just like pagans!)
We see our neighbors with their ugly signs and all we can think of is getting equally ugly signs that say good things.
But it's not about words, it's about beauty you can SEE!
Totally agree Leila, and the proliferation of tattoos and body piercings on naturally beautiful women over the last two decades is as sad as it can get.
Leila, you inspired me to ask my husband to place a large Mary statue near our front walk and plant some pretty flowers around it. We have a neighbor who does not share our political views. She sometimes walks past our house with her toddler granddaughter who loves to walk up our driveway and “say hi to Mary.” Beauty is irresistible!
Just ordered a St Michael statue for my front yard. And I have an Immaculate Heart of Jesus picked out on wishlist for the backyard neighbors to behold.
